The performance of the aesthetics and cosmetology professional for the adjuvant treatment of depression
Abstract
Depressive disorder is a public health problem, due to its high incidence and high rate of mortality and morbidity. It is a mental disorder, whose etiology is multifactorial and, therefore, requires multidisciplinary treatment. In the field of health, the professional technologist in Cosmetology and Aesthetics has an essential role, as from procedures and interventions it can help to promote the reduction of symptoms and contribute to the increase in quality of life. Thus, the main objective of this study was to understand, based on the review of the current scientific literature, the role of this professional in the adjuvant treatment of people with depressive disorder. It was also intended to identify aesthetic-therapeutic interventions and their benefits for the complementary treatment of depression. The results found in this study underscore the importance of the work of the Aesthetics and Cosmetology professional for the complementary treatment of depressive disorder, since from specific and appropriate interventions and procedures they can contribute to increase the self-esteem and self-confidence of these clients. Notable among these are aromatherapy, massage therapy, reiki between others aesthetic-therapeutic procedures that can contribute to the improvement of physical and mental health. It is necessary to carry out further studies in the area in order to identify other effective complementary integrative practices carried out by the Aesthetics and Cosmetology professional for the treatment of depressive disorder.
